Outside of the fact this video is literal AI slop, tech company leaders have been discussing the fact that AI can't now and most likely will not for the foreseeable future, be able to replace senior developers. Coding agents act like very capable junior developers that still make stupid mistakes, fail to understand intention, and don't provide product minded feedback.
Therefore we need to maintain a path for junior developers to continue to progress in their careers to becoming senior developers and over-reliance on AI would vibe code us into oblivion as an industry.
So don't think that a CS career is hopeless or going away any time soon. Coding agents are powerful tools but we still need human developers (despite what the CEOs of AI companies will tell you).
AI is in a bubble right now, much like crypto was a few years ago. Crypto-currency is a great tool and not going anywhere, but the days of stuffing NFTs into every new product are over. The days of stuffing AI into every new product will come to an end as well.
Therefore we need to maintain a path for junior developers to continue to progress in their careers to becoming senior developers and over-reliance on AI would vibe code us into oblivion as an industry.
We need to maintain a path for ALL THE THINGS to continue to progress in their careers to seniority with experience. This includes writing, illustration, photography, animation, music composing, music production, etc., etc., etc. - and of course coding.
Failing to nurture the young and/or inexperienced will make us all as weak, stupid, and not self-reliant as the third world nations we oppress. The West has already lost so much of our manufacturing prowess.
The days of stuffing AI into every new product will come to an end as well.
That would be nice - but they don't need AI in everything when it's all connected back to the hive mind with all the surveillance tech - which is not slowing down.
I actually went to school for illustration before switching careers and boy I'm glad I did. Illustration has never been a lucrative profession. One of my teachers, a world famous illustrator, explained to us that even at the peak of his career, he made most of his income teaching. That lecture actually got me thinking about switching my career goals and ultimately I did. But people will always want to do arts, and people will always be hungry for human produced art, so I'm not as worried about that.
Graphic design though? Yeah that's dead for sure. While the best graphic designers produce wonderful works, most businesses just want to move product and AI generated design will meet that goal sufficiently as to remove the market for human designers almost entirely. At least that's my prediction. Not happy about it, but it just seems most realistic considering how businesses use graphic design.
I remember in the 1980's, all you had to do was walk in a door somewhere and say you knew how to program, you had a job. And, pretty good pay. Otherwise, that computer they had just bought was going to be totally useless, no one else could program it.
coding is perfect for AI to do. It's a language and it's very easy if you understand the language. That can be a hard language to learn. But easy for AI. In the future no one will code it'll just be telling AI what we want.

Nine out of ten AIs agree.
