I own stock in a company that has been accused of being part of the dark Russian fleet. The stock has been doing really well; up about 20% since I bought it in mid-October.
A few weeks ago, they sold two tankers that were flagged in the Marshall Islands.. The following week, they took possession of two brand new tankers. Rumor is the old tankers were reflagged in Russia. Just pure coincidence, I’m sure. Just as I’m sure that the sale was an arm’s length agreement with another entity.
I’ve always wondered why the company chose the name “Stealthgas” (ticker: GASS) for a fleet of pressurized container ships hauling propane, butane, ammonia, and similar cargos. Now I know.
They sure are stealthy….last quarter’s results were excellent. Could it be due to the “risk premium” they supposedly get for their work? Nah, probably not.
I only learned this stuff recently. Their stock was WAY undervalued when I bought it. Who knew? I only have about $US 24,000 of it at last yesterday’s closing price. So it’s fun to watch.😇
Interesting information, Guy. This tends to confirm my view. Trump wins some, and, Trump loses some. I really don't think the US navy is strong enough to effectively police the entire planet, and, I think Vladimir Putin knows this quite well. In many ways, Putin and Trump are somewhat similar types, but, I think Putin is much, much tougher. I'm not sure Trump is adequately conscious of this fact.
Hold. It’s still significantly undervalued. I believe there is more room for growth.
The undervalue is probably due to the risky business model. “Selling” those ships to another entity lowered the risk of the stock. Solving the Ukraine war could also be a benefit to price as sanctions could be lifted.

So are you gonna hold it or sell? I didn't really know much about the dark fleet economy until I watched this video.
Interesting, the stock looks like it really took off in 2023. Kinda volatile since then though.
You actually want to buy into dark fleets?
No, I'm just asking questions about the economics of it.

Don't count on it.
